Here's a pretty simple fix to a problem I've seen on two fairly new (6-9 months old) HP DC-5750 tower PCs here at CDO. The problem was the PC tower powered on, but display NO SIGNAL on the LCD flat panel display. Rebooted the system, no change. Couldn't get the HP splash screen to display. I swapped the LCD flat-panel display with another, known working panel -- no change. I tried removing the power cord from the back of the PC and then draining the capacitors by press the PC's power button (this usually helps with DC-530, DC-5150, DC-5000 systems) -- no change. [grrrr...]
I spoke with HP Warranty Service and the tech on the line suggested removing the BIOS-backup Lithium battery from the Motherboard and then taking out and reseating the RAM sticks, reinstalling the backup battery on the MoBo. I did that and Bingo! the PC's display came back to life. Everything's fine and dandy.
I do think we need to track this issue and let HP Warranty Service know about repeats of this issue.

"Fix" is Temporary?
Tony G. from Technology/Repair emailed me regarding this article. Tony said that yes, the fix described in this article does work, but does not resolve any underlying issues with the PC and its motherboard. He says that the MoBo will eventually have to be replaced -- might as well make sure that the replacement happens while the PC is still under warranty! Call me crazy.
So, I guess we'll keep using the fix in the short term but we'll have to check to see how soon the warranty is up for the affected PC. If the warranty period is almost up, then we're going to option a warranty replacement with HP and deal with new issues the new MoBo will bring to the table.
What are your thoughts about this? Fix now or wait?
Solved--HP D-220 Video Problem
The same "fix" mentioned in the main article also works on the HP D-220 mini-tower PC. I guess if you have a No VGA Signal display with any HP system, try doing the RAM removal and taking out the BIOS battery for a few minutes, and then replacing everything. Seems to be working on just about every HP system I've come across that is exhibiting this problem.

Awesome! So, apparently the hardware discovery (Plug-n-Pray in the BIOS?) gets trashed and doing the reset option described in the main post cures that?
