Word 2007 Multilevel Lists

I helped out one of the administrative staff with an issue that was really annoying her. She was trying to use the Multilevel List option in Word 2007 and couldn't get the application to automatically increase the hierarchical indentation to the next list level--whenever she pressed the Tab key to increase/move the indentation to the next level, she would simply have the Tab move over to the next tab mark. Like I said, really annoying. I found this simple set of instructions on Tech Support Forum that resolves the the situation.

  • Choose the Office Button in the upper left corner of the Word application.
  • Click on the Word Options button in the bottom-right of window. A new window appears with numerous options listed along the left side.
  • Click on the Proofing option and select the Auto Correct Options button. Click on the Autoformat As You Type tab. Check the "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces" checkbox.
  • Click the OK button to exit the AutoCorrect Options window, click OK again to exit from the Office button.

Now, get back to work creating that outline/agenda list, damnit.
